The BNZ Advantage Classic Credit Card

A flexible, low cost option for cardholders looking to earn rewards, the BNZ Advantage Classic Credit Card offers the opportunity to earn Fly Buys points or Cash Rewards while paying a relatively low account fee. Enticing new cardholders to apply, the card is currently offering $75 cashback or 500 Fly Buys points with a minimum spend of $1,500 in the first three months.

What we love...

Boosting your balance with an nice introductory offer, the BNZ Advantage Classic Credit Card is currently offering $75 cashback or 500 Fly Buys points to new cardholders. To get your hands on the offer, simply spend at least $1,500 on the card in the first three months.

Now to those rewards. The BNZ Advantage Classic Credit Card is a lovely, flexible option, which offers you the choice of earning cashback on your spending or points within the Fly Buys rewards programme. Rewards are earned on eligible purchases (excluding cash advances, balance transfers, interest charges, bank fees, gambling, betting and lottery transactions) at a rate of:

  • $150 spend = $1 Cash Reward
  • $40 spend = 1 Fly Buys point

The rewards you earn are deposited into your nominated Cash Rewards or Fly Buys account monthly. So, what can you do with those rewards? Well, if you opt for cashback, you could use your rewards to reduce your credit card balance each month, you could transfer them to a BNZ savings account to earn interest, or you could transfer them to your BNZ current account to withdraw as cash.

If you opt to earn Fly Buys points, you will benefit from two lots of points when you shop at Fly Buys retailers, paying with your card and swiping your Fly Buys membership card at the same time. In terms of redemptions options, check out the Fly Buys site for more than 3,000 rewards, or alternatively, convert your points into contributions to any BNZ KiwiSaver Scheme account.

What’s not so great...

With its low account fee, the BNZ Advantage Classic Credit Card is a low cost option, however, it may not suit all cardholders. As it has a relatively high purchase rate and cash advance rate, it wouldn’t be a good fit for anyone who carries a balance. Paying out interest on carried balances and cash advances would make it difficult to enjoy true value on rewards earned.

Why should you choose this card?

If you want a rewards card with a low account fee, the BNZ Advantage Classic Credit Card could be the ideal option. With this low account fee, smaller spenders may find it easier to get value back on the rewards they earn. Plus, you have the option of choosing between two rewards programmes, earning either cashback or Fly Buys.

While it may have a fairly high purchase rate, note that as long as you pay off your balance each month, you can take advantage of up to 55 days interest free on purchases. As for features, this card focuses on the essentials, providing security and payment basics, plus compatibility with Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Overall Rating

Allowing new cardholders to boost their rewards balance with $75 cashback or 500 Fly Buys points, the BNZ Advantage Classic Credit Card is a flexible rewards card earning cashback or Fly Buys rewards month to month.
