Flight Centre Credit Card

The Flight Centre Mastercard

An awesome option for frequent travellers who regularly book their travel arrangements through Flight Centre, the Flight Centre Mastercard offers cardholders the opportunity to earn Flight Centre Rewards on everyday spending and Flight Centre purchases. Cardholders can also benefit from long term finance options, no international transaction fees, and free Wi-Fi access worldwide via Boingo.

What we love...

With the Flight Centre Mastercard, you could earn Flight Centre Rewards on your card spending, which can then be redeemed automatically when booking travel at Flight Centre. So, how does it work?

Earning Flight Centre Rewards: You will earn 1.00 Flight Centre Reward for every NZ$100 spent on eligible purchases, and 2.00 Flight Centre Rewards for every NZ$100 spent in-store or online at a New Zealand Flight Centre store.

Accumulating Flight Centre Rewards: As you use your card, the Flight Centre Rewards you earn will accumulate in your Flight Centre Mastercard account. You can check your total on your statement each month.

Redeeming Flight Centre Rewards: When you’re ready to book your next adventure at Flight Centre, you can redeem your points automatically. When redeemed, 1.00 Flight Centre Reward earned will equate to NZ$1.00, which can be used on any airline, hotel, tour, cruise, car hire or sightseeing deal offered at Flight Centre. Any unused Flight Centre Rewards will expire three years after the date they are earned.

Want to earn Flight Centre Rewards faster? You can add up to four additional cardholders to your account at no extra cost. With more cards in use every day, you should be able to accumulate more points, getting you where you want to go faster. It goes without saying that you are liable for additional cardholder spending – and just like your spending, you should be able to be pay it all off before it starts accruing interest.

As a card designed for frequent travellers, the Flight Centre Mastercard has a few nice travel-related features up its sleeve. These include:

You can travel now and pay later utilising long term finance options available when you pay with your card, helping you cover the cost of your trip.

You will pay no international transaction fees on transactions made in a foreign currency, helping you to save as you spend overseas.

You will have access to Boingo Wi-Fi for Mastercard Cardholders, helping you stay connected at more than one million Wi-Fi hotspots around the world, including New Zealand.

What’s not so great...

When comparing credit cards, it’s a good idea to check how much you will pay in fees and interest. Both the purchase rate and cash advance rate on this card is relatively high, so it’s best to clear your balance by the due date to avoid interest accruing.

In terms of fees, the annual fee is quite modest for a rewards card. However, the value it offers will depend on how much you get back in rewards. Also pay attention to the fees applied to Long Term Finance Purchases, as these should be calculated into your budget.

Why should you choose this card?

If you love travel – and tend to book your travel arrangements at Flight Centre – a travel rewards card such as the Flight Centre Mastercard could be a great option for you. This card makes it easy to earn rewards on both everyday purchases and travel spending, allowing you to stack up points to put towards your next trip.

The card’s annual fee is decent, especially for a rewards card, and as long as you channel sufficient spending through the card and pay it all off each month to enjoy up to 44 days interest free on your purchases, you could enjoy real value. The travel features mentioned above could add even more value, plus there are some other nice extras, such as compatibility with Apple Pay.

Overall Rating
